A fusion of automotive knowledge and business in the Southeast Netherlands

The Dutch automotive industry has grown considerably in recent years and now encompasses over 40,000 jobs. Much of the industry is concentrated in the Southeast Netherlands, home to world leaders such as DAF trucks, VDL Group, TomTom, NXP semiconductors, Nedschroef, Nedcar and Philips as well as top research and training organisations like Eindhoven University of Technology, TNO Automotive, Benteler Engineering Services and TTAI (TÜV Rheinland TNO Automotive International).

The pre-eminent automotive centre in Brainport and in the Netherlands is the High Tech Automotive Campus (HTACampus). This cluster of automotive companies, research institutes and educational institutions boosts knowledge exchange and innovation, especially in the field of automotive technology and clean and sustainable mobility solutions.

NEAR FUTURE: ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Electricity will be an important source of energy in the future for cars and light trucks. The Dutch industry aims to contribute to this development with innovations on system technology and vehicle concept to advance energy efficiency and safety. HTAS currently prepares an additional innovation programme on electric vehicle technology. This will be an exiting extension of the HTAS programme.

DAF LF Hybrid

The vehicle uses a parallel diesel/electric hybrid system. DAF’s parent company, PACCAR, has set itself the ambitious target of achieving a 30% improvement in fuel efficiency for specific medium-duty vehicles.

HTAS: Driving Guidance - CONNECTED CAR

The area of automotive ICT to improve traffic flow, safety and the environment. HTAS aims to develop solutions to reduce travel time by 25%.

ADVANCED POWERTRAINS

Research, testing and type approval in the field of powertrains, engines and emissions with a special focus on the reduction of emissions and CO2 and on advanced powertrains such as hybrids. The very latest facility being developed is the climate chamber where entire vehicles can be tested at various altitudes and temperatures.
