Mr. Rob van Gijzel – Mayor Eindhoven and Chairman of the Brainport board
Municipality of Eindhoven
Rob van Gijzel is the current Mayor of Eindhoven, the fifth largest city in the Netherlands. Rob van Gijzel studied pedagogy and andragogy before going to work for the Dutch Labour Party at the European Parliament in 1980. He has held different positions for the Dutch labour Party including chairman for the Young Socialists and chairman of the division Amsterdam.
In 1989, Van Gijzel became a Member of Parliament for the Dutch Labour Party. He held positions as Spokesman for Foreign Affairs, for Spatial Planning, and for Transport, Public Works and Water Management. Van Gijzel was chairman of the standing committee of Finance.
Prior to Van Gijzel’s appointment as Mayor of Eindhoven, he spent six years working as an independent businessman, as partner in the company of Politea Ltd. Politea provides research, training, communication, advice and organisation there where business, politics and private citizens meet.
Van Gijzel has chaired many committees, amongst which The Hague Sports Club, the National Car Pass Association and the Supervisory Board of the Lumens Group, and he was a representative of the ABVA/KABO Union. He has also used his management skills on the boards of a wide range of organisations, including the National Association for Priority Urban Districts, Woonbedrijf, a residential building corporation, RWE, an energy company, Chainworks, a reintegration company, and the Catharina Church Advisory Committee of Social Debates.
In addition to his function as mayor of Eindhoven, Rob is a member of the Board of Commissioners of HTM, a public transport company. He is also chairman of the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region (the SRE) and he is chairman of the Brainport Foundation. Van Gijzel is married, with two children, and lives in Eindhoven.
Mr. Aarnout Brombacher, Professor – Vice-rector internationalization

Prof.Dr.Ir. A.C. Brombacher was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on September 20th, 1961. He obtained a BSc, MSc (cum laude) in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in engineering science at Twente University of Technology. Aarnout Brombacher has experience in industrial quality and reliability improvement projects and the development of quality and reliability analysis methods and tools. He has authored and co authored over eighty papers on these subjects and has written a book with the title “Reliability by Design”.
Aarnout Brombacher is professor in “Business Process Design” in the faculty Industrial Design of Eindhoven University of Technology. With this chair he is responsible for research and education in the fields Quality Information Flows and Customer Perceived Quality in highly innovative product design and development processes.
Since March 1st, 2010 he is dean of the department Industrial Design and, next to that, since January 1st 2012 also vice-rector International Relations of Eindhoven University of Technology. In his function of vice-rector prof. Brombacher is responsible for developing the internationalisation strategy of Eindhoven University as well as for establishing and maintaining the corresponding international relations with strategic countries and partner universities.

Hein van Oorschot graduated in Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam. He has a long business and political career. He has worked for the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment for the City of The Hague, for the City of Tilburg as well as for consultancy and management. From 1997 until 2004, Hein van Oorschot became the mayor of the City of Delft. Since May 2004, he was appointed as President of the Executive Board of Tilburg University.
Mrs. Yvonne van Hest – Manager International Labour Market Development

Mrs. Yvonne van Hest, was born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on June 24st 1971. After studying Management and Organization at the University of Groningen for three years, Yvonne went to Breda University of Applied Sciences and, after four more years of study and extra curricular activities – like president of the school year book commission, she obtained a Bachelor in Tourism & Recreation Management.
After her graduation she performed different management jobs in tourism & leisure events and at recruitment and employment agencies. Yvonne is specialized in the following fields: program & project management; strategic account management; international marketing & PR; recruitment; building worldwide networks; managing and coaching small and medium sized teams.
At Brainport Development, Yvonne is as a program manager responsable for projects on international labour market development for the Brainport Eindhoven Region and the South of the Netherlands.
The main goals of these projects are: to attract, settle in and retain international knowledge workers and students on all educational levels, within a network of business, knowledge institutions and governmental partners; to build and maintain a European and worldwide network on the subjects of knowledge exchange and international labour. For the region, the presence of an international community is very important because of a lack of skilled (technological) knowledge workers. It also increases chances for international companies to invest and the strength of multicultural teams in innovate teamwork.
Mr. Hans Duisters – CEO
Sioux Group BV
With more than 25 years of experience in technical automation, Hans Duisters has a well-known expertise in technology business leadership. He achieved a high level of track records with proven business successes. In 1996 Duisters started a new Technical Automation company named Sioux. With 15 years of continues growth and a company of over 300 engineers Sioux develops and delivers every day embedded systems solutions to the high tech industry. Duisters and Sioux won amongst the Best Entrepreneurial Vision award, the Mechatronics award and the Best First Tier Supplier award.
Duisters is regular consulted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs for his opinion to stimulate innovation in the Netherlands. He is involved in the valorization processes of Universities of Technology and Knowledge Institutes and has supervisory board positions in several technology start-up companies. Duisters is co-founder of Brainport Industries which is the network of high tech supply companies in the Netherlands.
Mr. Erik Corduwener – VP Business Development
Simax Lithography BV
Erik Corduwener is a veteran in the semiconductor equipment industry, with more than 20 years of experience in several senior management functions in ASML, a Dutch company that designs, manufactures and markets high-tech lithography equipment for semiconductor production. Erik possesses extensive global business expertise, specifically in the Asia, in customer service, sales account management, marketing and procurement. In 2009, Erik joined the founding team of Simax Lithography and is VP Business Development, member of the Executive Team.

Mrs. Naomie Verstraeten – Senior Advisor International Affairs

Mrs. Naomie Verstraeten, MsC was born in Surinam in South-America and came to the Netherlands to study Tax Law and Organizational Science at the University. After her graduation she performed different jobs as tax advisor, manager and account manager for contemporary knowledge and skills training within companies. All her different jobs had one thing in common, internationalization.
At the Municipality of Eindhoven, Naomie is as a policy advisor International Promotion & Acquisition responsible for developing policies on international affairs and attracting and retaining foreign investments.
The main goals of her job are: to develop a strategy on international affairs, create awareness; attract; and guide investors when seeking a European location. For the region, the presence of an international companies and a international community are very important because they give a large boost to the regional economy.
Mr. Martijn Anthonissen, Assistant Professor – Researcher department of Mathematics & Computer Science

Martijn Anthonissen works as an assistant professor at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research area is numerical mathematics and scientific computing. His work is strongly connected to industrial applications, such as combustion, surface remelting, glass production, mixing and film cooling.
He spent longer periods of time doing mathematical research at Yale University (New Haven, CT, USA), at the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (Berlin, Germany) and at the Università degli Studi di Perugia (Perugia, Italy).
Mr. Anthonissen lives in the beautiful city of Utrecht, right in the heart of the Netherlands. In his free time he enjoys reading and photography. His fiancée, Lara Diamand, is a professional singer of classical music.
Mr. Edgar van Leest – Manager Strategy & Public Affairs

Responsible for the strategy formulation process for the Brainport foundation, for governmental relations to national government (The Hague office) and European institutions (Brainport Eindhoven EU Office). Responsible for execution of European activity portfolio of Brainport Development. Member of the Management Team of Brainport Development NV. Member of the support staff Brainport 2020 agenda (commission Jan Zuidam).
Main objectives Brainport Development - strategy unit:
formulation of the social economic strategy for Brainport region; monitoring and information intelligence; international relations and European projects; public affairs and governmental relations.
Background:
Master in Management Sciences & Public administration, Radboud University Nijmegen; Strategy consultant (12 years) for national and local government and trade organizations; Public servant (3 years) for Eindhoven Region in the domains of economic development and spatial planning; Brainport Development since 2007.
Mr. John Blankendaal – Managing Director
Brainport Industries
John Blankendaal, born on March 24th 1961, studied marketing and business development. He has a long track record in the high tech industry. After a career at Ernst & Young, management consultants, he worked 10 years for KEMA in corporate strategy and as a power system consultant. After that he was co-founder of the Business Factory, a small company, realizing spinoffs from large companies and universities.
In 2004 he started at the BOM, the regional development agency of Brabant as program manager high tech systems and solar industry.
As a result of his efforts he was asked to become managing director of Brainport Industries. A corporation combining 70 high tech companies. Brainport Industries was established so suppliers can join forces to strengthen the professional character and competitive position of the high-tech supply chain. As partners, suppliers can contribute to the continuity and growth of the high-tech industry. Brainport Industries provides a fertile ground and a solid structure for collaborative projects whether they are related to technology, markets or people. It's an environment that provides for a continuing flow of knowledge workers and experts and enables suppliers to increase their output and steadily grow into market leaders.
Mr. Wieger Kanters – Owner Xelvin Zuid

Wieger Kanters graduated in 1992 as a mechanical engineer and in 1996 as a Master Goldsmith in Schoonhoven. He worked for one year as a goldsmith in Anvers (Belgium) and then started his own jewelry shop. Wieger moved his career into the human resources at Manpower technics in 1997. In 2000 he made an other turn and became plant manager of a potato factory called Peka Kroef. In 2003 wieger got back in the staffing branch at USG Innotiv first as unit manager and finally as region manager. In 2007 he started Xelvin in the South of Netherlands, he and his team meet up with both engineers technical specialists as well as technical companies who are looking for new talented (national and international) employees. Nowadays Xelvin is one of the largest technical agencies in the Netherlands with over 500 technical employees and 35 nationality’s. In 2011 he started together with his business companion Vincent van Wieren the Xgroup The X group is a company that invests in people and new companies and has already 7 startup company’s.
Mr. Erik de Groote – Operations Manager

Erik de Groote graduated in Physics in 2000 on thin film technology at the former Natlab from Philips (now known as the High Tech Campus Eindhoven), and he graduated in Computer Science in 2001 on embedded domestic systems at CMG (now Logica CMG). After some years as a sales engineer, Erik moved his career into the technical agency’s. In this technical recruitment and staffing branch he and his team meet up with both technical engineers on Master and PhD level as well as technical companies looking for new talented (national and international) employees. Nowadays Xelvin is one of the largest technical agencies in the Netherlands with over 500 technical employees and 35 nationality’s.
Erik is also co-founder of the European wide Technical job board Qreer.com which launched in 2011 and shows all technical jobs and internships all over the whole of Europe
Anna Zhao – HR Manager China
Gea Group
Graduated in July 1994 in Clinical Medicine, continued her study from 2002-2004 in HR Management in Suzhou University. She started her career as English Interpreter and later moved on to Human Resources when she worked for Hydro Aluminium, a company from Norway. She had been on the HR Manager role from iGATE since 2004. She was promoted to Senior HR Manager from 2008 when working in Wuxi Balcke-Duerr. She is currently the China HR Manager of the FS Segment of GEA Group.
